Bali’s night markets are a must-visit for families looking to experience authentic local culture, and Tabanan’s night markets offer some of the best food, sights, and sounds on the island. If you’re searching for the best night market in Bali, Tabanan is where you’ll find a truly local experience, far from the tourist-heavy areas.
We headed here on our last night in Bali, with our family, Dani’s parents, and our niece (4) and nephew (6).

Unlike the bustling markets of Ubud or Seminyak, Tabanan’s night markets provide a more relaxed, authentic feel. They are where locals shop, eat, and socialize, making them a great place to immerse yourself in Balinese culture. For families, this is an exciting way to introduce kids to new flavors, watch street food vendors in action, and enjoy a lively evening outing.
What to Expect at Tabanan Night Markets
From sizzling satay skewers to fresh tropical fruits, the food at these markets is both delicious and budget-friendly. Kids will love the variety, and there are plenty of mild, kid-friendly options alongside spicier dishes for adventurous eaters.
Popular street food items include:
- Satay chicken on a stick (our first stop for a fail-proof kid option)
- Bakso (meatball soup) – A warm and comforting option that kids often enjoy.
- Martabak (stuffed pancakes) – Sweet or savory, these are a must-try!
- Grilled corn on the cob – Simple, tasty, and easy for little hands to hold.
- Es campur (shaved ice dessert) – A refreshing treat for hot Bali nights.
Beyond food, you’ll also find stalls selling clothing, souvenirs, and local crafts—a fun way to shop for unique keepsakes while supporting local vendors.
It was also nice that the markets were set up on a main street, so you could also duck into the larger stores. We stopped for a phone charger and got a beer at a place with a larger table to rest after walking for a long time.
Some highlights for us of the Tabanan Night Markets included:
- Kids’ Painting Station: For less than a dollar, children could paint pre-printed outlines on styrofoam boards, propped up on mini easels. Our kids were so pumped to pick their favorites and bring them home (lucky Grandpa was willing to fit them in his suitcase)
- Kiddie Train & Carnival Rides: A pop-up fairground vibe complete with small rides perfect for young kids.
- Petting Stall: Featuring hamsters, rabbits, and other small, furry creatures for little animal lovers to meet and greet.
- Sweet Treats Everywhere: From ice cream and donuts to colorful local sweets, there was no shortage of things to try (and kids to beg for)
Tips for Visiting with Kids
- Go early: Arriving around 5:30–6:00 PM helps you avoid peak crowds.
- Bring cash: Most vendors only accept cash (small bills are best).
- Try new things: Encourage kids to pick out something new to taste.
- Stay hydrated: Bali’s humidity means you’ll want plenty of water on hand.
How to Get There
Tabanan’s night markets are located about an hour from Canggu and Ubud, making them a great stop if you’re exploring central Bali or heading back from a day trip to Jatiluwih Rice Terraces or Tanah Lot Temple. We stayed about 20 minutes from Tabanan City near the several beaches that are still part of Tabanan.
